Chef Matt’s story

Matt loves to cook and discovered this passion while cooking with his grandma. She taught him how to cook delicious comfort foods like fried chicken, apple pie, and stews. Matt came to OP in 2008 and started on the Koch work floor, along with attending enrichment classes. Since then, with the support of our job coaches, he has progressed to independently working in the community doing what he loves at CRAVE, Rusty Tacos, and HyVee.

Matt’s love of cooking and skills in the kitchen made him an easy contender for one of our live auction events at our annual Gala, and has generously offered his time and expertise to cook a delicious dinner in the highest bidder’s home. OP has been fortunate enough to have Chef Matt contribute his time and we look forward to his next live auction event!

When asked why he has been with OP for the last 15 years, Matt replied, “Because OP cares about people.” He also stated, “I want to continue being OP’s private chef for the next 50 Years!” We would like that, too, Chef Matt!

Emily’s story

With the support of Opportunity Partners, Emily has worked at a YMCA as a Kids Stuff staff member for over nine years. She loves interacting with the children, getting to know them individually, their names and what activities they enjoy. Outside of work, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends and their cats. Her future goals are to continue living independently, working at the YMCA and being happily married.
