Supported Self-employment
This program provides one-on-one assistance to individuals looking to launch their own business. Supported self-employment is modeled to fit each person’s needs and assist with the business development process.
- Assessment Skill Modules personal inventory and pre-planning
- Business Feasibility Skill Modules review local/current market for business idea
- Business Planning Skill Modules assist with writing a business plan, including marketing and financials
- Technical assistance/Job Coaching provides supports after business start-up
- Mentoring links participant with experts in self-employment, accounting, legal assistance, etc.
Participants need a referral from a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor or County Social Worker and must:
- be an individual with a disability
- have a strong desire to own/operate a business
- be willing to meet on a regular basis and actively work with the Supported Self Employment Coordinator to start a business
- have a supportive team, who is willing to assist with business idea and plan
- currently live in the Twin Cities area
- have access to $150 to open a business checking account and be prepared to contribute financially to the business
