Our approach starts with person-centered planning, where we tailor our services to meet the specific needs and interests of the consumer, and ends with competitive employment. Throughout the process, we emphasize consumer engagement and skill building, allowing individuals to take initiative and be an active part of the job search. The Job Placement specialist is a resource, guiding that search with tools and education designed for success.

Job Development Skills Modules
- Job Search Attitude Inventory – Assists the consumer and team in identifying readiness for, and attitude toward, participation in an active independent job search.
- Workplace Realities – Focuses on a variety of workplace realisms including: the current job market, salary, employer expectations, working with a team, transportation, wardrobe and appearance, routine, and workplace culture.
- Managing a Job Search – Prepares the consumer with the many skills needed to manage an independent job search. The main focus is setting realistic goals and expectations, and developing needed organization skills.
- Networking and Informational Interviewing – Provides tools and best practices on networking with peers and employers. Also focuses on self-promotion and the need to concentrate on abilities when communicating experiences.
- Applications – Offers training and coaching on best practices for completing applications, including information that needs to be collected and incorporated. It also provides the consumer with opportunities to practice with both paper and on-line application processes.
- Resumes and Cover Letters – Assists the consumer in composing and editing resumes and cover letters, covering the importance of individualizing each resume/cover letter and submission method. The consumer will create materials for future use in their job search.
- Interviewing and Post-interviewing – Training and coaching that focuses on the many skills and best practices for interviews and follow-ups. Topics include: sample questions, self-presentation, telling your story, continued practice/preparation, and anxiety management. When appropriate, we can also produce a video-taped practice session or set up a mock interview.
- Negotiating and Accepting a Job – Builds skills in job offer acceptance and negotiations. Discusses the various parts that determine salary, benefits and other job parameters. It can also cover disclosure and best practices for revealing disability to an employer.
