Partners in Advocacy

Find Your LegislatorAs a non-profit organization, grassroots advocacy is an important part of Opportunity Partners’ mission, seeking to influence outcomes that directly affect the lives of the people we serve. Grassroots advocacy increases our capacity to build influence and create change in Minnesota’s public policy. These efforts bring together many people who share the same cause and who work for that cause from the ground up, creating a groundswell of voices.

Grassroots advocacy happens at the Capitol with our legislators, in the community with our friends and neighbors, and in the workplace as we advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.

Advocacy Activities

Grassroots advocacy, by its very nature, is something that is continuous. With 2010 being an election year, there are some great opportunities to advocate to your legislators while they are out of session and in your community.

  • Meet your legislators and candidates in the community – Check the candidate Web sites for community events to attend.
  • Attend candidate debates or forums in your community to learn where candidates stand on the issues that are important to you.
  • Minnesota Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (MNCCD) 2010 Candidate Forums September 14 through Oct 7, 2010.
  • Opportunity Partners on how to vote with disability issues in mind
  • Vote in the primary election on August 10, 2010 and in the general election on November 2, 2010. Find my polling place.
  • Vote by absentee ballot from September 17 to November 1, 2010, if you will be out of town on November 2, 2010. Learn about absentee voting.
